San Luis Potosí reform aims for inclusive education for children with disabilities

Deputy Ma. Sara Rocha Medina introduced a reform bill to amend the State and Municipal Law for the Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in San Luis Potosí. The proposal seeks to align the state law with federal standards, guaranteeing inclusive education from early childhood. It calls for the certification of Mexican Sign Language interpreters, the equipping of public libraries with universal‑design resources and accessible technologies, and the provision of specialized materials such as Braille books, large‑print texts, audio resources and adapted computer equipment for students with visual impairments.

The reform also mandates that no child with a disability be excluded from public schooling, requires the development of training, research and certification programs for interpreters and specialized staff, and obliges educational broadcasts to include captioning, audio description and sign‑language interpretation. The initiative has been referred to the State Human Rights Commission for further analysis.
