Conagua and Mexican officials tackle water service shortages and infrastructure projects
Local water agencies responded to citizen reports and shortages. COMAPA in Nuevo Laredo handled 1,800 service requests in July, fixing drains, leaks, and installations. In Piedras Negras, Mayor Jacobo Rodríguez reported intermittent supply, distributed water by trucks, and announced purchase of pumps and pipes to prevent future crises.
State and federal authorities advanced major water supply projects. Governor Indira Vizcaíno Silva and Conagua inspected the “Agua para Colima” aqueduct, 45% complete, slated to double potable water for 240,000 residents of Colima‑Villa de Álvarez. In Ayala, the SOAPSA system launched a technology upgrade to speed up service requests.
Legislative bodies urged Conagua to strengthen rain‑season preparedness, while Governor Maru Campos of Chihuahua refuted claims of foreign control over water operators. Reservoir levels in Hidalgo reached 87.5% of capacity, and a rehabilitation of the Ezequiel Montes network began, benefiting about 200 households.
