San Luis Potosí reports second-lowest homicide rate in Mexico

San Luis Potosí recorded the second-lowest intentional homicide rate in Mexico during the first half of 2026, according to the “Violencia letal en México” report by México Evalúa. The state reported a rate of 0.9 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants, significantly lower than the national average of 6.7. Only Yucatán recorded a lower rate at 0.5.

The state government attributed these figures to an integrated security strategy involving preventive, deterrent, and permanent surveillance actions. Additionally, officials linked the reduction to social welfare programs, including educational scholarships, economic support for single mothers, and the development of community infrastructure and recreational spaces.
