San Luis Potosí security official claims criminal groups target police with false complaints
Jesús Juárez Hernández, the Secretary of Security for San Luis Potosí, testified before the local Congress regarding 116 complaints filed against members of the State Civil Guard (GCE) during 2026. Juárez Hernández stated that 87 percent of these cases were resolved without finding responsibility for the agents, while 13 percent remain in process.
The Secretary suggested that organized crime groups are employing a strategy to discredit law enforcement. He alleged that criminal cells instruct individuals to file complaints with the Prosecutor's Office and spread accusations of corruption or abuse of authority on social media following security operations. He noted that complaints tend to decrease in regions where criminal activity has been suppressed and increase in municipalities where active operations are currently underway, such as Tancanhuitz and San Vicente Tancuayalab.
Despite this defense, the official acknowledged internal irregularities, noting that six officers were dismissed this year for serious misconduct, while others received warnings or temporary suspensions.
