San Luis Potosí State Congress Approves Housing Reform Recognizing Gentrification

The San Luis Potosí state Congress passed amendments to the State Land Use and Urban Development Law and the Condominium Property Regime Law, adding the definitions of “gentrification” and “affordable housing” as well as “occasional tourist stay.”

The changes aim to give clearer legal concepts for urban planning, promote social inclusion, protect community fabric, and curb speculative pressure on housing, without creating new powers or restrictions for authorities or private parties. The reforms also acknowledge temporary rental platforms and seek to align state legislation with contemporary territorial planning and human‑rights standards.
