San Luis Potosí pushes highway expansion, probes fracking claim and reviews Uber registration

State officials in San Luis Potosí are tackling several separate issues. The Secretary General of Government, Guadalupe Torres Sánchez, said the state will investigate a circulating document that appears to show Pemex requesting municipal permission to use explosives, which could signal the start of fracking activities in the municipality of San Antonio. Torres emphasized the state’s opposition to fracking and pledged to coordinate with civil protection authorities for clarification.

Meanwhile, Governor Ricardo Gallardo Cardona inaugurated the second phase of the Vía Alterna Sur, extending the corridor from the 122nd to the 140th avenue. The project is expected to improve connectivity for the industrial zone, shorten commuter times for thousands of workers and bolster the region’s economic dynamism, according to representatives of the manufacturing industry.

In a separate regulatory matter, the Secretariat of Communications and Transport (SCT) confirmed that Uber is the only ride‑hailing platform that has begun the registration process to operate during the upcoming Feria Nacional Potosina (Fenapo). The agency noted that Uber must complete the required documentation for drivers before it can be authorized, while traditional taxis must also meet certification standards.
