San Luis rural entities demand specialized agricultural prosecutor
Seven rural entities in San Luis, Argentina, are calling for the creation of a specialized Rural Agricultural Prosecutor's Office following a recent case of cattle theft and illegal slaughter.
The demand follows a police operation near Villa Mercedes, where authorities intercepted a vehicle transporting approximately 480 kilograms of beef. The investigation began after a report from a rural establishment in Liborio Luna, where four Aberdeen-Angus cattle were found slaughtered. Two men, aged 34 and 27, were detained during the procedure, and items including hides and viscera were seized.
In a joint statement, the organizations expressed concern regarding the frequency of livestock theft and clandestine slaughtering. They noted that current judicial responses have created a sense of impunity among producers. While acknowledging the need to respect constitutional guarantees regarding the release of detainees, the entities emphasized the necessity for dedicated legal responses to agricultural crimes.
