San Marcos man arrested for attempted murder of pregnant partner

The National Civil Police (PNC) arrested 21-year-old Alvin Asael Martínez Mancía in San Marcos, south of San Salvador, for the attempted murder of his partner, who is four months pregnant.

According to police investigations, the incident began with an argument fueled by jealousy while the suspect was under the influence of drugs. Martínez Mancía allegedly threw the victim against a wall, threatened her life, and attempted to asphyxiate her by grabbing her neck. The victim managed to evade the attack and call for help.

The victim was transported to a hospital for medical attention. Martínez Mancía will be handed over to the General Prosecutor's Office (FGR) for attempted homicide, though authorities noted the Public Ministry may pursue charges for aggravated attempted feminicide. Under recent legislative reforms, the suspect could face life imprisonment if convicted.
