San Marino approves law to support families and birth rates

San Marino has officially approved a new bill aimed at supporting families, maternity, and birth rates to address the Republic’s demographic challenges. The legislation is described as a strategic political choice to place family welfare at the center of public policy.

Demographic data presented during the approval process highlights a declining birth rate. In the first eight months of 2026, San Marino recorded 88 births, compared to 106 during the same period in 2025 and 91 in 2024.

The law is the result of an eighteen-month process involving consultation with social partners, associations, and citizens. Key measures include the strengthening of parental leave, which includes support for 80% of wages during the initial period.
