San Marino approves new family support law to combat demographic decline
The Grand and General Council of San Marino has approved a new family support law aimed at addressing the country’s demographic decline and strengthening the national welfare system.
The legislation introduces a comprehensive package of economic and social protections. Key measures include a 1,000 euro contribution for each newborn, monthly support for single pregnant women via the SMAC Card, and reduced fees for nursery schools. Additionally, the law extends sickness benefits for dependent children to include self-employed workers.
The reform also focuses on inclusion and caregiver support, following consultations with civil society and organizations working with vulnerable groups, including those dedicated to disability and Alzheimer’s care.
