San Marino hosts conference on risk prevention and climate security

The conference ‘The Culture of Prevention and Risk Reduction’ was held at the Kursaal Congress Center in San Marino, focusing on climate change, extreme weather events, and territorial security. Promoted by the Secretariats of State for Territory and Environment and for Internal Affairs, the event emphasized the need for a multidisciplinary approach involving civil protection, academia, and professional experts.

During the session, Fano Mayor Luca Serfilippi shared his city’s strategy for addressing hydrogeological risks through over 20 million euros in structural investments. Key projects include the Ponte Sasso diversion, a 2,700 cubic meter lamination tank on via Pisacane, and prevention works in the Roncosambaccio hilly areas. The goal is to shift from emergency management to long-term prevention.

Afternoon sessions addressed fire prevention risks associated with the energy transition, specifically regarding photovoltaic systems, battery storage, and new building facade materials. The discussions highlighted the importance of integrating prevention into territorial planning and design to reduce the vulnerability of infrastructure and citizens.
