San Marino implements new family law and baby bonuses

A new family law has entered into force in San Marino as of Monday, September 28, 2026. The legislation introduces several benefits, including a 1,000 euro bonus for every child born or adopted starting January 1, 2026. This bonus is also applicable to children already born.

Key provisions of the law include:

• Parental Leave: For the first three months of parental leave, the indemnity increases to 80% of wages, with a minimum of 1,500 euros per month. Paternity leave will increase to 20 days at 100% pay.

• Family Allowances: Starting in October, allowances will increase from 100 euros for the first dependent to 210 euros for the fifth.

• Nursery School Fees: Fees will be reduced by 50% for families with one child and an annual per capita income up to 9,000 euros, and by up to 100% for families with three children.

• Eligibility: The baby bonus is available to residents or holders of ordinary residence permits with an annual per capita income of up to 25,000 euros. The law also addresses child illness and assistance for non-self-sufficient persons, though some benefits require further implementing regulations.
