Cerveteri mayor Gubetti loses governing majority amid budget deadlock

The municipal administration of Cerveteri is in a deep political crisis. Mayor Elena Gubetti’s coalition has failed to secure a working majority, leading to repeated cancellations and suspensions of council meetings. On the latest session the council rejected the required budget‑balance resolution, a legal prerequisite for municipal finances, confirming the loss of parliamentary support.

Opposition leaders and local commentators argue that the mayor should resign, citing the inability to pass essential measures and the risk of prolonged paralysis. If a new majority cannot be formed, the city could be placed under a prefect‑appointed commissioner to ensure basic administration until the next elections.

The deadlock has sparked debate over the future of local governance, with concerns that essential services and social‑care programs could suffer if the stalemate continues.
