San Marino opposition demands referendum on EU association agreement
The San Marinese political movement Domani Motus Liberi is calling for a referendum regarding the association agreement between San Marino and the European Union. While the party states it does not oppose European integration, it has criticized the government for a lack of transparency and strategic planning.
Domani Motus Liberi argues that the executive has handled the dossier with “concerning superficiality,” failing to provide a detailed assessment of the economic, administrative, and institutional impacts. Specifically, the movement is seeking clarity on state costs, necessary personnel, public administration reorganization, and required regulatory adjustments.
To maximize the benefits of the agreement, the party suggests that the accord must be paired with a Strategic Economic Development Plan focusing on business competitiveness, investment attraction, infrastructure, energy, and the financial system. The movement has previously proposed legislation to mandate confirmatory referendums for international agreements that significantly affect state sovereignty.
