San Marino prepares for EU agreement talks and democratic reforms

San Marino is preparing for a series of significant political and legislative developments. Three political groups—Capifamiglia, Pro San Marino, and the Socialist Party—will host a ‘Referendum Day’ in Domagnano on October 23. The initiative aims to revitalize direct democracy and protect national sovereignty and neutrality against perceived bureaucratic barriers.

In the legislative sphere, several parliamentary commissions are scheduled to meet in mid-October at the Kursaal Congress Center. Key topics include the implementation of the Association Agreement with the European Union, with hearings involving Secretaries of State Andrea Belluzzi and Luca Beccari. Additionally, commissions will address gender violence and review 14 ‘Istanze d’Arengo’ covering issues such as road safety on the Superstrada, hunting regulations, and social protections for workers.

Economically, the Sammarinese banking system has seen its collections grow by over one billion euros in two years, reaching 7.275 billion euros as of June 2026. Meanwhile, the Court of Cassation has upheld a nearly 14 million euro fine against a company administrator following investigations by the Rimini Financial Guard.
