San Marino prepares for EU Association Agreement signing

San Marino is preparing for the signing of an Association Agreement with the European Union, scheduled for October 19. Parliamentary commissions are currently meeting to review the technical requirements and the roadmap necessary to transform the agreement into an operational reality. Key discussions involve the practical translation of European norms into the Sammarinese legal system and monitoring the impact of these measures on the national budget.

The signing on October 19 does not signify the immediate entry into force of the agreement. Several institutional steps remain, including formal consent from the European Parliament and the completion of procedures by the Council of the European Union. Within San Marino, the agreement must undergo examination by the Congress of State and subsequent ratification by the Grand and General Council. Additionally, as a mixed agreement, it requires ratification or approval procedures from the individual EU Member States according to their respective national laws.
