San Marino to sign EU association agreement on October 19
San Marino is scheduled to sign its association agreement with the European Union on October 19. This date was confirmed by Brussels to the Secretariat of State for Foreign Affairs, following formal authorization from EU institutions in July.
The signing marks the conclusion of a decade-long negotiation process that began in 2015. The agreement aims to integrate San Marino more deeply into the European single market by regulating the free movement of goods, services, people, and capital, while allowing the Republic to maintain its state sovereignty and remain outside the EU itself.
Following the signing, the agreement must undergo ratification within San Marino, first by the Foreign Affairs Commission and then by the Grand and General Council. Foreign Secretary Luca Beccari indicated that the goal is to achieve provisional application of the agreement between January and February 2027, depending on necessary technical and administrative procedures.
