San Martín de Tucumán deploys 260 police for high-alert match
Authorities have implemented a high-alert security operation for San Martín de Tucumán’s upcoming match against Ferrocarril Midland at La Ciudadela stadium this Sunday. Approximately 260 police officers will be deployed to manage the event following violent clashes between rival factions of the club’s ‘barra brava’ during a previous match against Gimnasia y Tiro de Salta.
The recent violence involved physical combat and weapons between the ‘El Piolín’ group and traditional factions such as ‘La Brava’ and ‘Barrio Oeste II’. This internal conflict is reportedly linked to disputes over the control of stadium revenue, including ticket sales and merchandising. Following the previous incident, 17 individuals were detained.
Security measures for the upcoming match will include access controls, security rings around the stadium, and the use of the ‘Tribuna Segura’ program to verify attendee identities. Police official Roque Íñigo stated that authorities are working with club management to apply admission rights to prevent identified agitators from entering the premises. Efforts will also focus on separating rival groups during entry to minimize the risk of further confrontations.
