San Martín de Tucumán misses promotion playoffs after turbulent season

San Martín de Tucumán finished ninth in Zone B of Argentina's Primera Nacional and failed to qualify for the Reducido promotion playoffs after 23 matches. The club accumulated 30 points from 7 wins, 9 draws and 7 losses, far below expectations set at the start of the year.

Despite a complete overhaul of the squad with 13 new signings and a change in club leadership, the team suffered from frequent coaching changes, injuries – notably a cruciate ligament rupture to forward Lautaro Ovando – and inconsistent performances. The lack of continuity prevented the side from consolidating a coherent playing style, leaving it outside the promotion race and requiring a series of home victories to re‑enter contention.

The season highlighted the challenges of rebuilding a team quickly, as the new recruits struggled to adapt and the rotating technical staff could not establish a stable system.
