San Martín extends homeless shelter operations due to Super Niño
Authorities in San Martín, Mendoza, have announced that the temporary shelter for people experiencing homelessness in Palmira will remain open throughout the year. Originally scheduled to close on September 15, the decision to extend operations was made by Mayor Raúl Rufeil due to weather forecasts regarding the ‘Super Niño’ phenomenon.
Mauricio Petri, the Secretary of Government for San Martín, stated that the extension is a response to predicted storms for September, with the situation being evaluated on a monthly basis. The shelter, located at the CIC in Palmira, currently accommodates 8 people out of a 16-person capacity and operates nightly from 21:00 to 07:00.
