Salerno woman stabbed in historic center by unknown assailant

A young woman, approximately 20 to 23 years old, was brutally attacked in the historic center of Salerno on Wednesday evening. The victim was sitting on the steps in Largo San Tommaso d’Aquino when an unknown assailant approached her from behind, stabbing her in the neck and striking her with punches and kicks.

The victim, a resident of the Salerno province who works locally, was transported to the Ruggi d’Aragona hospital in red code. She suffered a deep wound to the nape of her neck and a hand injury sustained while attempting to protect herself. After receiving treatment and blood transfusions, she was discharged with a 21-day medical prognosis.

Investigators from the Squadra Mobile are reviewing surveillance footage and witness testimonies to identify the perpetrator, who fled the scene. The motive remains unclear, as the victim stated the attacker did not attempt to steal her phone or money. In response to the incident, Prefect Francesco Esposito has ordered an intensification of police surveillance and patrols throughout Salerno's city center to ensure public safety.
