San Mateo Atenco opens first municipal autism center in Toluca Valley

The municipal DIF of San Mateo Atenco inaugurated the Unidad Municipal de Autismo (UMA), the first autism center in the Toluca Valley and the second operated by a local government in the State of Mexico. The facility, built with an investment of 7.3 million pesos, will serve about 250 children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder, offering comprehensive diagnostic evaluations, therapy, sensory integration, psychological support and training for families and educators.

The opening ceremony was led by mayor Ana Aurora Muñiz Neyra and attended by DIF officials including Oscar Muñiz Maynez, director Karina Labastida Sotelo representing Governor Delfina Gómez Álvarez, and State Health Secretary Celina Castañeda de la Lanza. The UMA is located at Mariano Matamoros 310 in the Concepción neighborhood and joins a network of DIF services that includes day‑care centers, rehabilitation programs and support for caregivers.
