San Mateo County District 3 Supervisor Race: Mueller vs Jimenez

Incumbent Ray Mueller, a longtime Menlo Park politician and attorney, is seeking re‑election to the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors for District 3. He will face former Half Moon Bay councilmember Joaquín Jiménez, a Coastside community activist who immigrated from Mexico and was the first Mexican‑born member of the Half Moon Bay City Council.

District 3 covers affluent communities such as Atherton and Menlo Park as well as coastal towns like Pacifica, Half Moon Bay and unincorporated areas. The June primary will determine the supervisor, and because only two candidates are running, the race will not appear on the November ballot.

The campaign is framed by the recent historic removal of former Sheriff Christina Corpus. Mueller supported the effort, citing Measure A, which gave the board authority to remove a sheriff and was used to oust Corpus. Jiménez defended Corpus, calling the measure “racist” and “sexist.” Jiménez says his priorities would include economic mobility, public‑safety outreach, affordable housing and support for farm workers.

Both candidates have highlighted community policing and engagement with vulnerable residents as key issues.
