San Michele di Pogerola hospital faces potential sale
The future of the former San Michele di Pogerola hospital complex is under debate following efforts by the ‘Tuteliamo la Costiera Amalfitana’ Committee to prevent its sale. The public property, which has remained unused and abandoned for years, is at risk of being removed from the local health heritage.
Following deliberations by ASL Salerno, the health authority has requested authorization from the Campania Region to sell the building. The Committee is calling on local and regional institutions to halt the sale process, noting that final approval from Palazzo Santa Lucia is still required.
Advocates suggest the facility could be repurposed to meet the needs of an aging population, such as providing rehabilitative, residential, or elderly care services. They argue that once the property is sold, the territory will lose a vital resource for future healthcare needs.
