San Michele district celebrates annual festival in Sciacca

The San Michele district in Sciacca recently concluded its 2026 festival, an event organized by Pro Loco Sciacca Terme with support from the Municipality of Sciacca and the Free Municipal Consortium of Agrigento. The festivities, held in Piazza Gerardo Noceto, combined musical performances, religious traditions, and local gastronomy.

A central moment of the celebration was the inauguration of a bas-relief dedicated to the memory of Francesco Maniscalco, a local figure known as “Zu Franciscu Pirocchiu.” The ceremony included local officials and family members. The festival also featured a cooking show showcasing traditional “Ova Murina,” a vintage car and motorcycle rally, and musical performances by Audio 2 and Valerio Scanu.

Following the event, community discussions have emerged regarding the potential transformation of the green areas in Piazza Gerardo Noceto. Due to the high density of families in the area and the current lack of dedicated recreational facilities, there are calls to convert parts of the square into a formal playground equipped with age-appropriate structures, seating, and improved safety features to better serve the local population.
