San Miguel de Tucumán Council to debate elimination of 59 municipal taxes
The San Miguel de Tucumán City Council is scheduled to discuss a proposal by Mayor Rossana Chahla to eliminate 59 municipal taxes and fees on October 22. The proposed date coincides with International Stuttering Awareness Day, a symbolic choice intended to support the creation of a Municipal Integral Center for Stuttering.
While the Mayor expressed optimism for a unanimous approval, the initiative has faced criticism from Soledad Molinuevo, a mayoral candidate for La Libertad Avanza. Molinuevo described the proposal as “campaign makeup,” arguing that the tax reductions are insufficient and lack significant impact for residents. She called for deeper tax cuts, a reduction in political spending, and a more efficient municipal administration to prioritize public works over political privileges.
