San Miguel de Tucumán mandates registration for ride-hailing drivers
The Municipality of San Miguel de Tucumán has launched a mandatory, free digital registration process for drivers and vehicles operating through digital transport platforms, such as Uber and DiDi. The initiative, which runs through November 30, aims to identify the estimated 5,000 to 6,000 workers in the city and ensure compliance with municipal ordinances.
Urban Mobility Secretary Carlos Arnedo stated that the measure is intended to organize the sector and enhance user safety, noting that digital platforms currently do not comply with municipal ordinances regarding driver and vehicle data. The registration follows an investigation into a reported attempted kidnapping involving a platform driver.
To complete the registration, drivers must provide identification, a criminal record certificate, a valid driver's license, and vehicle documentation including insurance. To mitigate financial burdens, authorities are allowing temporary flexibility regarding insurance documentation, accepting standard certificates supplemented by screenshots while requesting coverage details directly from the platforms.
