San Miguel de Tucumán mandates registry for app drivers
The Municipality of San Miguel de Tucumán has launched a mandatory Digital Municipal Registry for vehicle owners and drivers using ride-hailing platforms. This initiative, governed by ordinances 5483/2025 and 5484/2025, aims to regulate private passenger transport services in the capital.
Registration begins on October 1, with an initial online phase via the Ciudadano Digital (CIDITUC) portal. Drivers must provide documentation including a national professional driver's license (category D1 for cars), a criminal record certificate, and proof of insurance for passenger transport. Vehicles must not be older than 13 years. Following document validation, municipal personnel will conduct physical inspections of the units to ensure safety compliance. Approved vehicles will display a QR code for administrative monitoring.
The move follows a lack of registration by the digital platforms themselves. The Secretariat of Urban Mobility has signed a commitment with the National Federation of Taxi Drivers to conduct an information campaign for drivers of services like Uber and DiDi. This agreement aims to ensure drivers are aware of the mandatory registration requirements and procedures despite the platforms' failure to comply with previous deadlines.
