Regional updates on transport regulations and foreign investment reforms

Various regional governments and sectors are implementing new transportation and investment regulations. In Buenos Aires, Argentina, authorities have extended the validity of professional driver licenses by 120 days for those expiring between July 1 and October 31, 2026, due to operational difficulties in accessing training and psychophysical exams. Meanwhile, in San Miguel de Tucumán, the municipality is creating a direct registry for drivers using platforms like Uber, DiDi, and Cabify to ensure oversight following delays in platform compliance.

In Honduras, transport leaders have proposed a modernization plan to the government, including the transition to electronic payments, bus fleet renewal, and converting drivers into salaried employees to improve security and stability. In Mexico, President Claudia Sheinbaum has submitted a legislative reform to Congress aimed at increasing control over foreign investments in strategic sectors such as energy, AI, semiconductors, and telecommunications to protect national security.

Other legislative efforts include a road safety strengthening project in Ecuador, which seeks to regulate delivery services and centralize traffic control, and discussions in Rosario, Argentina, regarding shared taxi pilot programs and increased oversight of ride-hailing applications.
