San Nicodemo Celebration Unites Cirò and Mammola in Calabria

On 4 August 2026, the towns of Cirò and Mammola in Calabria held a joint religious ceremony honoring San Nicodemo Abate. The event featured the unveiling of a new icon of the patron saint, created by artist Rosa Barrilli under the direction of the Idea Association. Local officials, including mayors Mario Sculco of Cirò and Stefano Raschellà of Mammola, presided over the gathering, which also included a vernacular hymn and a Eucharistic celebration led by Father Massimo Sorrentino. Monsignor Antonio Mazzone delivered a message encouraging love for one’s neighbour, and the Pro Loco of Cirò organized a communal meal showcasing regional gastronomy. The ceremony highlighted the historic ties between the two communities, originally forged in the 1980s through pilgrimages and shared devotion to San Nicodemo.
