San Nicolás police officers to face trial for shooting detainee

Two police officers from the 1st San Nicolás Police Station, Antonio Ezequiel Luna and Nicolás Santiago Empedocle, are set to face trial for culpable injuries. The trial follows an incident on August 1, 2024, where the officers fired a shotgun loaded with rubber pellets into a cell.

The discharge targeted Jonathan Paredes, who was being held for resisting authority. The shot, fired from less than half a meter away through a cell window, caused Paredes to lose his left eye and suffer serious facial lacerations. The Provincial Commission for Memory will participate in the proceedings as an institutional complainant.
