San Nicolás Tetelco to host fourth annual Atole Fair
The community of San Nicolás Tetelco in the Tláhuac borough of Mexico City will host the fourth edition of the Feria del Atole on November 14 and 15. The event will take place at the Plaza Cívica Emiliano Zapata and is expected to feature more than 65 exhibitors.
Visitors can sample various traditional beverages and snacks, including atole made from cempasúchil flower, sweet potato, huitlacoche, and piloncillo, as well as corn-based chileatole. The fair also showcases local crafts and cultural activities.
The tradition of the “atoleros” in Tetelco dates back to the early 20th century. Historically, local women prepared and sold tamales, coffee, and various atoles in clay pots to workers from the former Hacienda de los Ahuehuetes de Santa Fe, establishing a culinary identity that has been passed down through generations.
