San Pablo Coapan producers lose 30% of cempasúchil crop to cold front
Flower producers in San Pablo Coapan, Naolinco, report a loss of up to 30 percent of this year's cempasúchil (marigold) production due to a recent cold front. The weather event damaged structures and crops at the Jardín Xantolo, a key tourist destination during the Day of the Dead season.
Demy Martínez, treasurer of the cempasúchil producers committee and manager of Jardín Xantolo, stated that high winds caused many plants to fall or break. While recovery and rehabilitation efforts are underway to repair the damage, officials warned that the garden will not be in the same condition as in previous years. Despite the setbacks, the site intends to remain open to tourists and travel agencies, requesting patience from visitors as they work to restore the facilities.
