San Pedro Cholula launches extensive road‑repair program and plans tunnel reopening

The municipal government of San Pedro Cholula has begun the "Bachetón 2026" program, the largest pothole‑repair effort in the city's recent history. Mayor Tonantzin Fernández visited the Santiago Mixquitla neighborhood, praised the work crews and announced the acquisition of three new machinery modules that will expand coverage, lower costs and allow full rehabilitation of many streets. She said, “Muchos de nuestras calles se van a rehabilitar por completo,” emphasizing the aim of safer, better‑conditioned roads for residents.

Separately, authorities expect the tunnels beneath the Great Pyramid of Cholula to reopen to visitors in July, following agreements with the municipalities of San Pedro and San Andrés Cholula and work by the INAH. The reopening is projected to boost tourist numbers and generate economic benefits for the region, positioning Cholula as a key cultural destination.
