San Pedro Cholula shuts down illegal cockfighting arena

The municipal government of San Pedro Cholula, headed by mayor Tonantzin Fernández, carried out an inter‑institutional operation in the early hours of Sunday 2 August to close a clandestine cockfighting arena located on Allende Street in the Santiago Momoxpan auxiliary junta. The raid involved the municipal Protection Civil and Normativity offices, the secretariats of Governance and Public Security, the State Police and the Centro de Bienestar Animal, which set up perimeter security to protect personnel and the public.

The closure is part of the animal‑welfare policy promoted by Puebla Governor Alejandro Armenta and reflects the municipality’s commitment to enforce existing legislation, protect animal rights and maintain legal order in the community.
