Dominican Tourism Minister David Collado advances beach upgrades and protects public access

Tourism Minister David Collado has overseen a series of public‑beach improvement projects across the Dominican Republic. He visited Playa Macao in La Altagracia, a site previously targeted for reconstruction and parking works funded with more than RD$53 million in 2021. In San Pedro de Macorís, Collado supervised the final phase of the El Faro beach upgrade, an investment of RD$67 million covering 570 m of shoreline and 12,398 m² of public space, scheduled for hand‑over to President Luis Abinader on Friday. Another major work began in Baní’s Los Almendros beach and malecón, costing RD$136.9 million and delivering plazas, parking, sanitary facilities and recreational areas. Collado also reiterated that private security personnel may not block citizen access to any public beach, citing a recent incident in Juan Dolio where a musician was denied entry. He announced an inter‑agency working table with the Ministries of Environment, Interior, and the Attorney General to safeguard beach access and enforce regulations. The ministry highlighted that dozens of beaches—including Sosúa, Guayacanes, Macao, and Haina—have already been opened or upgraded under its recovery program.
