San Pedro OCR sailing regatta nears final qualifying day

The San Pedro OCR regatta, a venue for the future L.A. 2028 Olympics, is entering its final day of qualifying. The competition determines which 10 boats in the 49er, 49erFX, and Nacra 17 Olympic classes will advance to Saturday's Medal Races.

In the Nacra 17 fleet, Sweden's Emil Järudd and Hanna Jonsson have taken a one-point lead over France's Tim Mourniac and Aloïse Retornaz. The Dutch team of Willemijn Offerman and Scipio Houtman currently holds third place. Racing conditions were described by Jonsson as "shifty and gusty," requiring intense maneuvering.

In the 49er class, the competition remains tight, with several international teams including Great Britain, Finland, Austria, and the United States sitting near the qualifying cut line.
