San Pedro sugar mill reopening remains stalled in Veracruz
The reopening of the San Pedro sugar mill in Veracruz remains pending as local officials urge business owners to hand over the facilities to the state government. Although Governor Rocío Nahle García has fulfilled her commitment to establish a trust fund to finance the factory's recovery, the physical transfer of the premises has not yet occurred.
Local deputy Felipe Pineda noted that while there has been no official refusal from the companies, the process appears to be delayed, possibly due to ongoing negotiations. Regional mayors have issued statements calling for the handover to be finalized, emphasizing the urgency as the December harvest approaches. If the mill does not resume operations, sugarcane producers will be forced to transport their crops to alternative facilities such as La Gloria, Papaloapan, or San Cristóbal, which would increase logistical costs.
