San Pedro Sula: Lawyer wounded in motorcycle-borne armed attack

Lawyer and merchant Edwin Salguero was wounded during an armed attack in San Pedro Sula on Saturday, September 26. The incident occurred around midday in the El Palenque sector of the North Boulevard as Salguero was approaching his red pick-up truck. He was accompanied by his mother at the time of the assault.

Witnesses and police reports indicate that two men on separate motorcycles had been waiting in the vicinity of a fast-food establishment where Salguero was located. As he moved toward his vehicle, the attackers intercepted him and opened fire. One report noted that the victim was grabbed by the hair during the assault.

Preliminary investigations by the National Police and the Directorate of Police Investigations (DPI) suggest the primary motive may have been robbery. Authorities believe the suspects may have stolen approximately 200,000 lempiras. Salguero was rushed to a private medical center for emergency surgery and is currently reported to be out of danger.
