San Rafael and San Bruno implement flood prevention measures

Municipalities in Argentina and Mexico are implementing preventive measures to mitigate flood risks associated with upcoming storm seasons and climate phenomena.

In San Rafael, Argentina, authorities have launched a comprehensive cleaning operation of drains, channels, and primary and secondary storm collectors to prepare for the ‘Super Niño’ phenomenon. Andrea Fichetti, Secretary of Public Works and Services, noted that the works aim to ensure infrastructure can safely transport water during extreme weather. However, officials reported that the presence of household waste and pruning debris in watercourses is hindering drainage capacity and increasing blockage risks.

In the community of San Bruno, Baja California Sur, Mexico, the State Civil Protection Subsecretariat has completed dredging works on the local stream. This action, coordinated between state and municipal authorities, is intended to prevent flooding during the current rainy and hurricane season.
