San Román candidates called to sign governability agreements

The Mesa de Concertación para la Lucha contra la Pobreza in San Román has called upon municipal election candidates and their first and second councilors to sign ‘Acuerdos de Gobernabilidad’ (Governability Agreements). The event is scheduled for Tuesday, September 22, at the Jorge Chávez health post.

The agreements are structured around four key pillars: environment, health, education, and social issues. These pillars are supported by local statistics and specific regional challenges. Critical issues identified for candidate commitment include alcoholism, adolescent pregnancy, violence within youth relationships, human trafficking, and the disappearance of children and adolescents.

Enrique Álvarez Segura, president of the Mesa de Concertación, and Katterine Marleny Alejo Montesinos of the Asociación de Fe y Derechos Humanos emphasized the need for concrete proposals to address these crises. Organizers expressed concern regarding the lack of participation in previous dialogues and stated they will publicly disclose which candidates attend the signing to ensure accountability for the upcoming municipal administration.
