San Roque Patronal Feast: Father Trejo reflects on service to the marginalized
During the Patronal Feast of San Roque held on Sunday, August 16, at the Parish Temple, Father Marcelo Trejo delivered a homily focused on the life of the saint and his commitment to the sick, the poor, and the excluded.
In his message, titled ‘San Roque: putting the body where life hurts’, Trejo used the saint's history as a starting point to reflect on modern societal wounds. He noted that San Roque, born in Montpellier, France, lived during a time of the Black Death, an era defined by fear and social exclusion. Trejo emphasized that the saint did not merely speak about suffering from a distance but chose to ‘put his body’ into action by approaching the sick and remaining in devastated cities, even after contracting the plague himself.
