San Roque, Spain Restores Guadarranque and Puente Mayorga Beaches

The Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA) completed a sand‑profile restoration at the Guadarranque beach in San Roque. Over a few nights, 12,000 m³ of sand were moved and redistributed at a cost of €42,000 plus VAT, improving the river mouth flow and beach balance for the summer season.

APBA announced a second operation for the nearby Puente Mayorga beach, scheduled for the coming week. The work will shift sand from accumulated zones to narrower sections of the shoreline, widening the bathing area. The contract, awarded to Manuel Alba S.A., is valued at €39,448.50 (VAT excluded) and will be carried out in the mornings during low tide to avoid disturbing nearby residents.

Both projects are part of a broader coastal‑recovery plan that includes extending the promenade, removing old concrete structures, planting 50,000 native dune species, and installing protective fencing and new walkways to preserve dunes.
