San Salvador de Jujuy reports nearly 150 business closures

Approximately 140 to 150 businesses have closed in San Salvador de Jujuy, according to a survey by the local Chamber of Commerce. Guillermo Bustamante, president of the Chamber, stated that the expected economic recovery has failed to materialize, leaving many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) unable to reach a break-even point due to rising costs and declining income.

The crisis has significantly impacted the local labor market. Out of approximately 60,000 people employed in Jujuy’s private sector, an estimated 10,000 jobs have been lost over the past year. Bustamante noted that the decline in consumption is affecting even essential goods and highlighted challenges such as informal commerce, smuggling, and competition from international platforms.
