Rome family murder-suicide: funerals held for parents and disabled daughter

Funerals were held on September 12 in Rome for Valentina Pambianco, her husband Luca Abbasciano, and their 5-year-old daughter, Bianca, following a suspected murder-suicide in the Pietralata district on August 31.

Investigators believe the couple killed their daughter and their dog before taking their own lives using a legally owned handgun. Authorities found numerous notes in the home suggesting the family was struggling with the extreme financial burden of caring for Bianca, who had a severe disability. The Rome Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation into the deaths and is examining bank accounts and the costs associated with the child's medical treatments, including a trip to Mexico.

During the funeral service at the San Giovanni della Croce parish, the priest addressed the community, reflecting on the tragedy and the profound difficulties faced by caregivers. The investigation remains ongoing as forensic results and digital evidence from seized devices are analyzed.
