San Sebastián Film Festival holds protest for Israeli directors

During the San Sebastián International Film Festival, hundreds of film industry professionals gathered on the red carpet to express solidarity with Israeli documentary directors Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor. The filmmakers, creators of the documentary ‘NAZA’, have reportedly received threats following their depiction of civilian casualties in Gaza.

Approximately 900 industry figures, including prominent names such as Pedro Almodóvar, Javier Bardem, and Antonio de la Torre, signed a manifesto titled ‘NAZA, against genocide and for freedom of expression’. The document denounces the persecution and censorship faced by the directors and calls for an immediate end to the violence in Gaza.

Festival director José Luis Rebordinos and various actors and directors participated in the reading of the manifesto. The mobilization, held under the slogan ‘We are NAZA too’, highlighted concerns regarding the safety of the filmmakers and the protection of freedom of expression within the cinematic community.
