San Sebastián Film Festival kicks off with major Movistar Plus expansion

The 74th San Sebastián International Film Festival has commenced, showcasing a diverse array of global cinema and high-profile premieres. The event features 263 titles from 47 countries, with notable stars such as Brad Pitt, Penélope Cruz, and Orlando Bloom in attendance. Key screenings include the Spanish premiere of ‘La bola negra’ and the French adaptation of ‘Les Misérables’ directed by Frédéric Cavayé.

During the festival, Movistar Plus announced an ambitious content strategy to reinforce its position as a leader in Spanish audiovisual production. The platform aims to release one Spanish film per week and an average of two new Spanish series per month, targeting a total of 26 series annually by 2027. This includes upcoming titles such as ‘El castillo’, ‘La náufraga’, and ‘Ardora’.

Additionally, Movistar Plus renewed its partnership with the festival through 2029, continuing its role as a Media Partner to support Spanish creators. The festival also highlighted the importance of the Europe-Latin America Co-production Forum, which has spent 15 years facilitating international cinematic partnerships.
