San Sebastián proposes record 502 million euro budget for 2027

The San Sebastián City Council has presented a draft budget for 2027 totaling 502 million euros, marking a 1.2% increase over the current year and representing the largest budget in the city's history.

Significant portions of the funding are earmarked for specific sectors. Social spending is proposed at 43.5 million euros, an 8.9% increase from this year and a 17.1% increase compared to 2025. The largest allocation is dedicated to urban maintenance, with 111.5 million euros planned for upkeep. Additionally, the council will contribute 38.8 million euros to the Dbus bus service.

Mayor Jon Insausti stated that the budget aims to transition from a decade of heavy investment in rail infrastructure toward a phase focused on city beautification and citizen care. Key priorities include improving public transport, enhancing street cleanliness, and addressing housing needs and elderly care. Other planned projects include the renovation of the Bretxa market and various sports facility upgrades.
