San Sebastián protest over street‑food ban draws crowds

Volunteer group Kaleko Afari Solidario (KAS) organised a mass demonstration in Plaza Berria, San Sebastián, demanding the municipal ban on street‑food distribution be lifted. Protesters chanted “Afaltzea ez da delitua!” (stealing is not a crime) and called the ban a punitive measure that “increases delinquency and creates safety problems.”

The demonstration targeted Mayor Jon Insausti and the city council, urging them to remove the restriction, provide a real and viable alternative for needy residents, and stop criminalising solidarity initiatives. KAS members also warned against linking migration and delinquency in public discourse and demanded that citizen‑led aid not be further limited.
