San Tobia Church reopens after restoration in Livorno
The San Tobia Church, located within the La Cigna municipal cemetery in Livorno, has officially reopened following a major redevelopment project. The restoration, managed by the Municipality of Livorno, was part of a broader program to maintain and enhance the city's historical and monumental heritage.
The project, which cost approximately 200,000 euros, focused on structural consolidation and the restoration of the roof. Key technical interventions included the replacement of degraded wooden beams and purlins with new chestnut wood, the reinforcement of the load-bearing structure with steel supports, and the rehabilitation of the high altar and entrance.
During the process, historical materials from the roof that were still in good condition were recovered and reused. The reopening provides a dignified space for worship and commemoration within the cemetery complex.
